THE chief constable who was caught speeding in Wales has been sent a letter from the South Yorkshire Police Authority, expressing its disappointment in his behaviour.

Med Hughes was caught by a speed camera doing 90mph, however the authority says it still has full confidence in his ability to lead the force.

His speeding conviction was discussed at a special meeting of the authority held in Barnsley this morning. After considering the evidence the authority decided no further action was needed.

A statement, released after the private hearing, said: "The chief constable continues to have the full confidence of the Police Authority and this matter is now closed."

Mr Hughes was given a 42-day driving ban by magistrates in Wales.
