It’s been a busy year for Hayley Youell, and next year could be even busier as her music career looks set to take off.

She plays keyboards and sings backing vocals for British Expeditionary Force, an alternative electronic indie band who have been played by Zane Lowe on Radio One and are due to be featured in next month’s NME.

The 23-year-old former Kingstone pupil from Warner Road, Pogmoor, also sings with local alternative folk band Tiny Little Secrets and Jazz outfit Azalya, as well as writing her own solo material.

Next month she will live in the studio for three days while she records an album with Azalya and she has gigged all over the area with Tiny Little Secrets.

She has just played at Camden Roundhouse with British Expeditionary Force, watched by an intimate audience and a host of music industry bigwigs.

She said: “I don’t want to jinx anything. It’s a bit scary.”
