NEWLYWEDS Victoria and Darren Wastnage got the surprise of their lives when Father Christmas and his sleigh turned up on their wedding day to chauffeur them to their reception.
The couple, of Shelley Close, married at St John’s Church, Penistone, on Sunday afternoon and as they waited for the wedding cars, Rudolph pulled up to give them a lift instead.
Victoria’s mum Maureen Faxon, of Shrewsbury Close, Penistone, organised the ride. She said: “My husband Peter knows members of the round table and when I asked them for the favour they were happy to oblige.
“Vicky and Darren didn’t know a thing. It was a magical day, a wonderful family celebration.” Victoria and Darren were childhood sweethearts and got together when they met at Penistone Grammar School more than 10 years ago. They have daughters Martha, three and Nancy, ten months. Vicky is a sister at Barnsley hospital and Darren is a mechanic.
Rev Father David Hopkin, who conducted the ceremony, said it was an unusual but special family wedding.
He said: “It is the first time anyone has been picked up from the church on a sleigh but everyone had fun. We even had Father Christmas at the ceremony handing out presents.”
