AN AMERICAN firm has bought out a Dodworth business which sells medicines to pharmacists and major retailers all over the world.
The Michigan -based Perrigo Company, which manufactures drugs, yesterday announced it had taken over Galpharm Healthcare.
Galpharm employs about 65 at its offices and distribution complex on Upper Cliffe Road, which opened in 1982.
A spokesman for Perrigo said: “There are no immediate operational changes being made as a result of this announcement and the Galpharm brand and business will continue to operate from Barnsley.”
Human resources director David Tozer confirmed that workers are not at risk.
“The business will be maintained in terms of employment numbers. It’s too early to say at this stage whether there will be expansion but there are certainly no jobs under threat.”
