A WELL-preserved photograph of a Barnsley school football team from the 1937-1938 season is being donated to the Experience Barnsley museum.
Coun Ken Richardson has handed in the photograph on behalf of his elderly neighbour, Sofie Knox, of Mary Ann Close, Monk Bretton, who has dug out the old picture from her late husband’s things.
“It’s a really good photograph, really clear in great condition,” said Coun Richardson.
“Unfortunately she’s not so well at the moment so I’m taking it in on her behalf. She wanted it to go to the museum, and wanted people to see it.
“There might be people in the picture who are still alive, although they’ll be in their 90s, and ‘m sure there’s someone out there who can recognise their parents or grandparents in the picture.”
The photo was accompanied by a note written by Mr Knox, who died a number of years ago, saying ‘we never lost a game all season, and beat Ardsley Athletic in the final’.
It also has the names of all the ten and 11-year-olds listed.
They are: back row, left to right, A Grimshaw, F Hill, F Poppleton, K Flintham, E Hodson, B Bell; front row: J Pell, A Moxon, R Winstanley, J Knox, R Jones; in front with the ball is J Sellars.
