A NEW wind farm on the outskirts of Penistone is one step closer after E.ON sent in a formal planning application to the council for three 100m turbines at Blackstone Edge, Crow Edge.

The application follows a scoping report, which is a consultation document outlining details of the potential wind farm, that was sent to the council in November 2006.

If given the go ahead it would mean a total of 17 turbines within a three mile radius.

The proposed scheme would be to the north-west of the Royd Moor wind farm and the approved three turbine farm at Hazelhead.

Scoping reports have also been received for wind farms at Midhope Moors, Spicer Hill and Hepworth Plant.

The company were given permission to put a temporary anemometer on the site at Blackstone Edge to test suitability at a planning meeting on Tuesday.

The 50m high anemometer will measure wind speed and the data will be used to assist in the design of the proposed wind turbines.
