BARNSLEY’S Cooper art gallery has been given permission to expand into a house at the back of its town centre premises, to provide a new cafe and work space for artists.

The gallery is in Church Street but has a rear entrance in Eastgate, where the house is and this can be transformed following a decision by Barnsley Council’s planning board.

It will mean making some minor external changes to the building, including the addition of a small entrance porch, from the gallery’s garden.
