ANGRY residents in Crow Edge say there will be a forest of wind farms in the area if the proposed farm at Blackstone Edge is given the go ahead.

Dozens attended a public meeting on Tuesday held by E.ON to voice their concerns about a proposed three 100m turbine farm on the site in Crow Edge.

The scheme would be to the north-west of the existing Royd Moor wind farm and the approved three turbine farm at Hazelhead, which is yet to be built.

The council has also received scoping reports, which are consultation documents outlining details of potential wind farms, at Spicer Hill, Hepworth Plant and Midhope Moors.

One resident Harry Barron, of Old Flouch, said: "I think it is propaganda. The ones that are there already don't work half the time. The wind is either too high or too low. We have been fighting applications like this for years but now the council has changed their policy on wind farms. There will be a forest of them soon."

Doreen Rothery, of Fairview Cottage, which is next to the proposed site, said: "We moved here for the beautiful views but in a few years all we will be able to see is windmills so we are certainly opposed. I appreciate we need green energy but the last one was approved despite 500 letters of objection so I don't hold out much hope."

Huddersfield Model Aircraft Club, which uses a field next to the proposed turbines off Browns Edge Road, say they will also be affected.
