A 19-YEAR-OLD man's pelvis was broken when a chimney stack fell through his bedroom ceiling as an earthquake shook homes across Barnsley.

Tremors were felt across the borough at about 1am on Wednesday and homes were damaged in Wombwell, Thurnscoe and Bolton.

Residents all over Barnsley have contacted the Chronicle saying they heard a loud rumbling sound and felt their homes shaking.

The British Geological Survey said the quake's epicentre was in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, and measured 5.2 on the Richter scale, the strongest quake for 25 years.
