ABBEY Brooks was a troublemaker who picked up ASBOs, got drunk and started fights.
Now she has been given an award by the fire service for turning her life around.
Abbey, 15, of Chilton Street, became involved with the fire service after she was referred to a training course by the youth offending team.
She spent a week tackling simulated blazes and learning how to use fire-fighting equipment.
Abbey enjoyed the activities so much she decided to join the young fire-fighters.
She has been presented with a trophy at a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue awards ceremony in Sheffield City Hall.
Receiving the 'turning my life around' award was an emotional moment for her and mum Amanda.
Abbey said: "I was shocked because I didn't think I'd get it. My mum was crying and everything."
