SIX people have been arrested after police swooped on scrapyards in the Dearne. The Dearne Safer Neighbourhood Team has been clamping down on scrap yards since the end of January. In two operations two arrests have been made in relation to alleged car theft and driving while disqualified and two in relation to copper thefts. Two people were also arrested and fined for using red diesel, a tax-free fuel usually used in farm and agricultural vehicles but not permitted in road vehicles. Ten fixed penalty notices with £300 fines were handed out to people taking material to scarp yards without having a waste carrier's licence and two people were reported on summons for driving offences. A tractor was seized and prohibition notices were slapped on two vehicles which weren't fit to be used on a public road and three people were dealt with over benefits issues.
