WOMBWELL-based Naylor Industries is helping to fight homelessness with the appointment of a social enterprise building company to work on its sites in Barnsley.
Happy Days Building and Roofing is already working on the modernisation of a Naylor site in Cawthorne with the spin-off that vulnerable people can be taken off the streets and helped into work.
In 2017, Naylor moved some of its operations from old sites and has contracted Halifax-based Happy Days Building and Roofing to work on the premises.
The jobs include roofing, demolition, and the construction of a new canteen and toilet blocks.
As a social enterprise, the work of Happy Days supports parent charity Happy Days UK with profits from construction work helping to fight homelessness.
The role of the company is to provide both a premier building and roofing service, but also to take individuals off the streets and help put them to work.
Peter Sherburn from Naylor said: “We are working closely with Happy Days Building and Roofing to modernise the factory at Cawthorne.
The company has performed in every way to a standard acceptable by us and we look forward to working with them on future projects.”
The work will allow Happy Days to expand and take on more full-time staff.
It is already looking to hire four additional tradesmen and will be taking on two apprentices. Happy Days regularly aims to hire and train those who have struggled in the past with issues such as homelessness.
Dave Fawcett, director at Happy Days Building and Roofing, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Naylor and it’s great to see a Yorkshire business doing so well.
“The work they are doing with us will have a huge impact, both to support our parent charity but also in creating more full-time jobs that will keep people off the streets this winter.”
Naylor Industries, a fourth-generation family business, was founded in 1890.
Business turnover for the group now exceeds £50m and the company employs 400 people.
