RESIDENTS on Wentworth Road are so sick of not being able to park outside their homes that they have sent a petition to the council.

They are calling for a residents' only parking zone to stop shoppers parking there.

The petition has 21 signatures representing residents from 15 properties.

One resident, Sarah O'Kane, said in a letter to the council: "I have recently moved onto the road and was both appalled and amazed by the amount of traffic the residents have to contend with.

"The road is besieged with traffic taking up all the spaces and most of the road. It becomes an obstacle course both in and out of it. Parking outside or near your own home is nigh on impossible most of the week."

Other residents, who have lived there several years, say that traffic has increased dramatically over the last year due to the increase in local business.

Keith Hadfield, who has lived there for 23 years, said: "It is a narrow road anyway and at times it is hard just to get up and down. Friday and Saturday are the worst especially for the people in the terraced houses."

The road will be subject to an assessment by council officers who will look at putting in place parking restrictions or an alternative scheme.
