A SAILOR who was used as a guinea pig in a government experiment had to use his compensation to pay for private treatment to save his sight.

Donald Fisher was in the Royal Navy and 19 -years- old in October 1949 when he was asked to spend three days at Porton Down military science park to help develop a cure for colds.

In reality he was one of hundreds being used to test the effectiveness of protective clothing against mustard gas.
