RESIDENTS campaigning to save green space from development are trying to get it registered as an village green. It is the latest step in the Manvers Green Residents' Group's fight to save an area at Cadman Street, Wath from a 29-home development. The group has submitted its application to Rotherham Council and is awaiting a response before deciding on further action. Chris Taylor, 39, who has lived on Cadman Street for 14 years, said they were hoping for a response shortly. He added: "It has been a central part of our community for a long while and we have used it for all sorts of things for many years like street football events and things to do with the kids. "It is especially important now with the main road being one of the busiest in the area. It is not a road you want to have children walking half a mile along to get to the nearest green space." The association is compiling an archive of photographs about the site and their objection to Gladedale Homes' plans is based around the history of the site, the environmental impact and health and safety implications. It also argues the area is a haven for wildlife and not for the first time a roe deer was spotted on the green.
