TEENAGER Nathaniel Hill is hoping to swap the green hills of Penistone for the bright lights of the States – in a bid to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional American footballer. The 17-year-old jets off to the United States on Tuesday, June 25 to trial for a college scholarship at a week-long training camp run by the Philadelphia Eagles. He will pit his wits against other trialists in front of a host of college scouts and professional club scouts. He will have to complete a series of fitness tests, skills sessions and then impress in a number of practice matches. At the end of the training camp, his stats will be sent to 2,000 colleges in the hope that some will offer him the chance to take the first step towards his dream. The former Penistone Grammer School pupil, who plays for Sheffield Tomahawks and attends Hillsborough College, can play in a number of positions including wide receiver, tight end receiver and left outside line-backer. Weighing 210lbs and standing at 6'4", Nathaniel is confident he can be successful. He said: “I cannot wait to go. I am confident I can do well and I am just going to go there and give it 110 per cent to try and get picked. “Usually it is only Americans who get picked and get scholarships. No English player has ever made it so I am going to try and be the first. I have improved a lot in recent years and I think I can prove that I can play with the top players.”
