POLICE targeted Dearne pubs in a weekend drug bust using specially trained dogs. Seventeen officers visited pubs in Thurnscoe, Bolton-on-Dearne and Goldthorpe with springer spaniels Eddie and Paddy.
Several drinkers were searched, a caution was handed out and arrests were made in relation to possession of controlled substances understood to be mainly cannabis. Seventeen officers from the Dearne SNT were involved in the operation a fortnight ago which was organised at the request of licensees and members of the Dearne Valley Pubwatch.
Jane Morris, acting sergeant at Dearne SNT, said: "We went into pubs and clubs to identify anybody either using or coming into contact with any controlled substances.
"We needed two officers to each person we searched and also for the safety of the dogs but we had a good team available and were able to do quite a lot."
