THERE has been a sharp fall in the number of old folks catching super-bug C.diff at Barnsley hospital.
Figures for the last year show infection rates in the over 65s are down from 365 to 177, almost 100 cases fewer than the government target.
The decline has been put down to prescribing less antibiotics, which make elderly vulnerable to C.diff, and better infection control measures.
The number contracting MRSA also fell and the drop from from 17 to 12 was enough to meet the government target.
