BUILDERS have always been known for their strong tea and greasy breakfast butties, but now they have another favourite - salads.
The food truck on the Barnsley Academy building site at Kendray is doing a roaring trade in healthy snacks.
Builders' favourites of bacon sarnies and full English breakfasts are becoming a thing of the past. Instead the 150-strong workforce is refuelling on plates of salad and bowls of pasta.
Maxine Ryan is helping run the on-site catering van and they're spending less time over the hot plate and more time spinning salad.
She said: "We have noticed more lads on site are getting health conscious - gone are the days of the greasy spoon.
"We have tried broadening our horizons with things like tuna pasta salads. They go down a storm. Sales of bacon and sausages have dropped off - it's all about toasties and salads.
"It's not Jamie Oliver standard but they like healthy stuff."
Neil Jones regularly tucks into a salad. He said: "I think they're the future."
