A PENSIONER from Grimethorpe was injured and left in the middle of the road after being knocked over by illegal bikers.
Barbara Gough, 69, of North View, was walking with her brother on Sunday near the cemetery behind Taylor Crescent when about four bikers sped round the corner.
Barbara, who used to work in the newsagents on High Street, said: "Two were girls on quad bikes and they were laughing because they had missed us and we were trying to jump out of the way when another two bikes came round the corner and knocked me in the air."
Barbara said her brother dialled 999 but had problems hearing what was being said on the phone. She added: "One of the bikers stopped for a moment and took the phone off my brother and told them where we were but then rode off."
Sgt Stephanie Smith said the matter was being investigated by road traffic police. She added: "It's very dangerous for walkers when bikes are speeding past. "The operation is an ongoing thing throughout the summer targeting Grimethorpe, Great Houghton and Brierley. Offenders will be dealt with severely."
