TIME is standing still at Wombwell.
The town hall clock came to a standstill just turned 12 o'clock last week and since then the fingers have not moved.
A spokesman for the council said:" The clock has stopped as a result of the deterioration of parts. The council's maintenance firm, Smith of Derby Ltd, has been notified and the possible methods of repair they recommend are being considered.
"Unfortunately, the clock will be out of service for some time and we will try to rectify the fault as soon as possible. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience."
*The clock has created problems before. About 30 years ago the mechanism went haywire and for a day chimed 30 or 40 times on the hour.
