THE wife of a suicidal man who stepped in front of a lorry while under psychiatric hospital care is furious he was transferred from Kendray to Barnsley hospitals in a taxi.
Michael Wells is fighting for his life after suffering horrific leg injuries.
His wife Ann believes the accident would not have happened if he had been transported in an ambulance. Michael was accompanied by a carer but let himself out of the taxi and was then involved in two road accidents last Friday.
The first was on Greenfoot Lane where Michael was walking and was in a minor collision with a car. In the second incident on Huddersfield Road he became trapped under a delivery truck after stepping in front of it.
Barnsley PCT was unable to comment on the case but a spokeswoman said:"All incidents of this nature are fully investigated and any necessary action is taken."
