A BARNSLEY MP has encouraged people to get advice about their benefit entitlements before the government changes its backdated payments policy.

Eric Illsley said many were missing out on money because they did not know they were entitled to it.

He said: “Recent increases in essential everyday expenses means many people are finding it harder to make ends meet. Yet too many are missing out on money that is rightfully theirs.

"Many simply assume they won't qualify and others are daunted by the prospect of making a claim. But claiming can be simple and I would urge anyone who thinks they might be entitled to some extra help to get in touch with the citizens advice bureau."
