THE inquest on a girl who died in a quarry was dramatically halted yesterday after the firm's former health and safety officer revealed bosses were aware of the dangers.

Amber Worth, 13, of Park Avenue, Brierley died in April last year when a half-tonne boulder overbalanced and fell on her as she and her friends played in the Carlton Brick quarry at Grimethorpe.

The health and safety officer, Daniel Wilson, said that a metal paling fence should have been erected around the 2.1 kilometre boundary of the quarry regardless of cost because the number of cases of trespassing was so high.

He said over a period of ten years he had told bosses what the dangers were at the site and had made repeated requests for managers to go on health and safety courses but none did.
