A CELEBRITY hat maker has been named the Yorkshire bride tiara designer of the year for creating an unusual head piece made out of compact discs.

Janet O'Callaghan, of Paddock Road in Staincross, earned the title at a top Yorkshire Bride ceremony at the Pavilion show ground in Harrogate.

As a couture milliner to the stars - her latest commission was an Ascot hat for GMTV presenter Anna Williamson - Janet entered the competition late-on but created a tiara matching the brief of using only eco, green or environmentally friendly materials.

She chose CDs as her main medium because she wanted something that would make a bride sparkle and shine on her special day.

She said:"It took me about six hours to do because i wanted to make something very sophisticated and glitzy and didn't want to use flowers or anything organic that might wilt.

"I had some old CDs and i just started to cut into them to try to get this shard effect that would sparkle and it was very much a fluid process which i just ran with.

"I'm thrilled but I still can't believe it, it's like I'm waiting for someone to come and tell me there's been a mistake or something."
