A WOMAN with a complicated condition may not have died at Barnsley Hospital had she been seen by senior doctors instead of juniors, an inquest was told.

Elaine Guest, 60, of Stairfoot, died on November 1 in hospital where she had been for ten days. She was admitted suffering abdominal pains, diarrhoea and shortness of breath. She had a number of health complaints and had recently had bowel surgery.

Coroner Naomi Cuthbert questioned whether Elaine should have been on ward 17 - cardiology and general medical. The coroner also raised concerns about information missing from notes.

She said: "The holes in the Swiss cheese are beginning to line up.

The inquest was adjourned until next year when more doctors will be asked to attend.
