TWO homeless men were forced to see in the New Year camped in freezing conditions in Silverwood Woods when they were told all the homeless shelters were full.

Raymond Collison, and his friend Paul Denton, were in tents donated by the YMCA after they were sent away by the council.

The men, who have lived rough for a few months, said they had survived on donations of food and equipment fromthe public.

Raymond, 33, said the pair had chosen to live in the woods near Silkstone to avoid being targeted by people in the town centre.

"At this time of year you can get a lot of trouble as you get drunks coming out of the pubs so we came up here as there was nowhere else to go," he said.

"We stayed with the YMCA from Christmas Eve but on December 27 they sent us to Holden House. When we got there they said everywhere was full and it would be a week before they could give us an interview."
