FOR the first time - the universe is coming to Wombwell Wood.
Novice stargazers will get a chance to peek through powerful telescopes at objects in the sky at the wood's v Star Trek event - organised by the Forestry Commission and the Swinton and Mexborough Astronomical Society.
Experts will give a running commentary and point out the spring constellations as man made satellites scuttle across the sky.
Wombwell Woods park ranger, Liz Demers, said: "This is the first astronomy event we have organised at Wombwell Wood and it couldn't be better timed as 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy.
"We will be looking for planets - including Venus and viewing sparkling star clusters, making it a night to remember." The photograph shows starry-eyed Jay Mallinson, four, getting to grips with a telescope.
