BARNSLEY College bosses have been forced into halting the £60 million redevelopment plan because of a national funding cock-up.
Principal Colin Booth yesterday said he was angry and frustrated and urged the government to sort out the mess so building work can get underway.
Builders were due on site in May but Mr Booth has had to call them off because the college has not been given the cash it needs to pay for the work.
Demolition started in January and it is expected the Old Mill Lane building will be flattened within a week.
Then work will stop because the Learning and Skills Council, which is paying for it, has run out of cash because it got its sums badly wrong, according to Mr Booth.
