A HAIRDRESSER has been asked to style contestants on one of Britain's top TV shows despite being told she wouldn't make it big because she was from Barnsley.

Jodie Palmer, a style director at Toni and Guy, has defied critics who told her hairdressers from the north don't get anywhere in the industry by bagging a job on Britain's Next Top Model.

She has also styled models at London Fashion Week and the Clothes Show and done the hair on ITV 2 show Coleen's Real Women.

Jodie, 20, of Devonshire Drive, Wilthorpe will go to Manchester for filming at the beginning of May. She said: "I had to audition to do London Fashion Week and it opens up a few doors for you to do more session work. I was screaming about it all morning when I found out. I am really excited."

Jodie started as a Saturday girl at Russell Eaton when she was 14 and became a hairdresser when she left school but isn't tempted by the bright lights of London.

She said: "Obviously, I am not always available to get to London quickly so they don't usually pick people from the north but I said I could get there and I have been on a few smelly coaches to get to assignments."
