BARNSLEY Schoolboys under 12s are through to the final of the Michael Dale Trophy after a 4-1 victory over York.
Playing in front of a large crowd the young Reds turned in a very impressive performance against the current league leaders and were full value for the victory. Boosted by the return of key players they were quick off the mark and after only nine minutes Aaron Bettley held off his marker to find Fittam Kastrati who coolly gave his side an early advantage. Barnsley were unable to add to their tally before the break but soon went 2-0 up at the start of the second half when Kastrati broke free to beat the advancing keeper after good work by Thomas Dolan.
Joe Singleton's inswinging corner was headed on by Phyliss and although York were able to partially clear the ball, Mason Bell thumped the ball into the net from the corner of the box to extend the lead.
York pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time but the home team saved the best until last and Kai Hancock moved quickly on halfway to intercept the keeper's long kick and his instinctive half volley flew into the empty net much to the delight of his team mates and the home crowd.
