BARNSLEY folk queued in their thousands this week to be given back the rubbish they threw out months ago.
The council gave away 4,000 bags of compost at Locke Park on Wednesday and Thursday, all made from rubbish collected in the green wheelie bins.
One satisfied customer shouted from his car window: "It's the greatest give-away in town."
But many were not so impressed - yesterday's 2,000 bags were gone in little-over an hour, leaving hundreds of drivers disappointed.
One said: "I can't believe it. It's all gone again? I came yesterday and they said there'd be more."
Another said: "Typical. The first time Barnsley gives anything away and I can't even get any. I've come from Wombwell for this."
