MEMORIAL wreaths placed on Royston war memorial have been stolen, leaving members furious.
They are put there by the Royal British Legion and other organisations on Remembrance Day and many are added throughout the year after members have died.
Secretary Malcolm Cooper said the branch were unaware the wreaths had been moved and many members were shocked and upset.
He added: "We don't know what has happened to them. I drove past the other day and they weren't there. I asked Les Barrell, the poppy organiser about it and he was very cross."
One wreath was laid only two weeks ago after a member died and Mr Cooper said the member's daughter had been 'disgusted with it'.
Another wreath was from Mr Cooper's relatives who were visiting from South Africa. The memorial is in the grounds of St John the Baptist Church but parish priest Fr John Hudson said he knew nothing about the wreaths being removed.
He said: "I haven't removed them and know absolutely nothing about it."
Mr Cooper said: "They are kept neat and tidy and 50 per cent of cenotaphs throughout the country have wreaths on. They are not cheap."
