CLEARANCE work has been carried out on a potential travellers' site in Wombwell Woods in preparation for a new planning application.

An application for the site owned by the Smith family near the junction of Dovecliffe Road and Pit Lane was refused last year due to location issues, drainage problems and residents' objections.

Plans included six chalets for elderly members of the family who are living in fear of flooding at their present site in Ings Road.

An application for a new access route to Dovecliffe Road to feature a gated and walled tarmac driveway and six car parking spaces was also made.

Albert Smith, of West Street, Darfield, said: "We are playing the wait and see game at the moment. "We have hit a wall - we can only do so much with the site before we find out the result of a second application.

"As we have said all along we want to do this properly and want to work with the public and the council as best we can."
