A PENISTONE Grammar School teacher has been suspended after he allegedly grabbed a pupil by the throat.
The Chronicle understands the long-serving teacher was suspended earlier this month after the alleged incident.
A spokesman for Barnsley council confirmed a teacher has been suspended and that an investigation was underway.
Pete Bevis, secretary for the Barnsley branch of the NUT, said: "I am aware of an incident but cannot comment on individual cases.
"Allegations are allegations and a suspension is a neutral action until investigations take place. The teacher will either be reinstated or the disciplinary process will be enacted if there is sufficient evidence following the investigation."
No one at the school was available to comment.
