THE number of jobless youths in Barnsley has almost doubled in a year, new figures have revealed.
About one in eight are out of work and claiming some sort of benefit at a cost of £122,000 a week - or £6.3m a year.
The figures compiled by the Prince's Trust give a snapshot of what impact the recession has had in Barnsley.
In February last year 1,345 18 to 24-year-olds were out of work across Barnsley. A year on that figure had risen to 2,410, an increase of 79 per cent.
