A CHECKOUT assistant is believed to have become the first person in Barnsley to be diagnosed with swine flu.
Staff at B & Q, Stairfoot have been warned to check for signs of the virus which include sudden fever and cough, sore throat, headaches, aching limbs and diarrhoea.
The woman, thought to be in her 50s and from Wombwell, has been in isolation at her home since being diagnosed with the virus.
One member of staff, who asked not to be named, said he was worried it may have spread. "It is a large organisation with a lot of staff," he said.
But a spokesman for the DIY store played down fears, stating the health and safety of staff and customers was their priority.
