REUBEN Noble-Lazarus and Steven Bennett increased their claims for first team football with goals in the reserve team win over Bradford City.

Both players have been involved in the first team squad for recent matches and produced excellent finishes to turn the tables after Jake Speight's impressive ninth-minute goal had given the visitors a lead.

Danny Fearnehough's clever free-kick in injury time confirmed the victory and gave Nick Daws' team their first win since they thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 in August.

Grimethorpe boy Bennett, 19, made his first team debut on Boxing Day and has been on the bench for the last seven Championship games. Noble-Lazarus, 17, has also made Mark Robins' matchday squad on a few occasions this season.

Daws was impressed by the duo and says the youngsters could have bright futures.

"The point of having an Academy is to create first team players," he told the Chronicle. "Reuben and Stevie both have a way to go but they showed their potential on Wednesday.

Reuben has been on the scene for about two and a half years now. He is improving slowly and steadily and has got much physically stronger over the last six or eight months.

Stevie's work ethic is excellent and he showed on Wednesday that he can finish.

All the players who played in this game have a chance of making it as a professional and they are in our plans.

I think the club is overdue a good crop of youngsters and, although we are not going to rush them, some of those players could do very well."
