A SCARECROW designed to stop a heron eating fish from a garden pond has created quite a stir in Darfield.

So far the deterrent, named 'Buck' because he has a bucket for a head, has been mistaken for a burglar, his owner and a workman.

Irene and Colin Tindle, of Clarney Avenue, said they came up with the idea and being fed up of seeing goldfish after goldfish being snatched by the heron. Irene, 76, said: "Every morning the bird would come and sit on the bridge over our pond.

"It has actually been a real problem, last year we lost all our fish, we have more than one pond but I think he chooses that one because the bridge acts like a perch for him." So far 'Buck' has done his job because there has been no sign of the wily wader. She said: "The funny thing is because it is dressed in Colin's overalls people think it's him and stop and chat or call his name, one neighbour even thought it was a burglar."
