A HAPLESS teenager was caught 'red handed' after getting his arm painfully stuck in the car he was trying to steal.
The youth, 17, was found by officers on the roof with his left hand trapped between the driver's door and the bodywork - as if it had been slammed on him.
Police were called to St Andrew's Way, Ardsley, at about 1.10am on Tuesday after residents were woken by screams of 'let me out' from outside. When officers arrived they found the lad still stuck.
It is thought he had bent the door out of shape so he could get his arm in but slipped causing the door to snap back.
The car, a Vauxhall Cavalier, belongs to retired Janet Hooley, 68. She said: "When we heard the noise we went to the window. When we got outside I said, 'What are you doing with your arm in my car?" He said: 'It wasn't me'.
"He was shouting, 'Let me out' and I said, 'I am not'. Of course we didn't. There were about five police cars came and it was an easy cop for them."
The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempted theft and appeared in Barnsley youth court. He admitted trying to steal the car.
