A CORONER will write to a care company and council with concerns over the death of an elderly man who lay collapsed for up to 40 hours without detection.
George 'Harry' Denton died of pneumonia two days after he was found on the floor of his home on Clough Road, Hoyland, on January 4.
The 81-year-old had not answered the door to carers on the previous eight visits yet no action was taken by the care company to contact relatives or try to gain access.
Recording a narrative verdict Mr Dorries said it was unlikely Mr Denton could have survived the illness although an earlier discovery would have made his last days more comfortable.
Mr Denton's daughter Pauline, herself an Open University lecturer in health and social care, said she felt a lot more could have been done by AJB Care.
She said: "His last hours could have been better than they were. I hope lessons will be learned."
A spokesman for AJB Care said: "We have co-operated fully with investigations and reviewed our processes as a matter of course in line with the inquest."
