ON that wonderful day in 1912 when Barnsley won the FA Cup another team in the town was also celebrating its own piece of glory.

That team was the Cudworth Brotherhood soccer team which celebrated winning the final of the Sunday school League on the Oakwell ground and went a step further towards achieving their proud record of being top team in the league for 10 years.

The mascot of the Brotherhood team at the time was seven- years -old Beckett Iveson. He lived at Barnsley Road, Cudworth.

Playing in the team were his three brothers, John William, David and George Iveson. His uncle, Mr T Iveson was on the committee.

When the photograph was previously published in the Chronicle (date unknown) David and John William were still living, the latter being 76.

One of the team's regular players, Frank Brown, later played for Chester and eventually became the club's manager.

In the picture are: back row, left to right: S Hogley, H Goulding, D Iveson. Middle row: W Binns, E Hopson, JW Iveson, G Iveson, T Brown, G Platt, T Gunhouse, E Young, (trainer), W Lawton, J Storey, Front row: E Cherry, W Stonier, A Driver, E Race, C Cornhill, G Tickadine, J Stonier.

Do any of these names sound familiar to any of our readers? If so, please contact Kath Parkin, Barnsley Chronicle, 47 Church Street, Barnsley.

The Cudworth Brotherhood team was still going strong nearly 20 years later as there is a second photograph taken in the 1930-31 season, but we do not know the players' names.

The photographs were loaned to Memories by Brian Scatchard of Wombwell.

Footnote: Barnsley beat West Bromwich Albion in a replay at Bramall Lane 1-0 on April 24 1912 with a goal in extra time from Harry Tuffnell to win the FA Cup, the biggest prize in English football.
