A WOULD-BE child snatcher allegedly asked a nine-year-old girl to go and 'see his rabbits' before trying to bundle her into his car outside a Barnsley school.
The brave girl, from St Dominic's primary, Carlton Road, managed to push him away before running to a family member.
One parent said: "Everybody's talking about it and I think people are really worried. I don't think he'll will come back here, but I'm worried he'll just move on to another school."
Catherine Flood, head teacher at St Dominic’s, said: “The fact that the child in question recognised the potential danger, ran away and immediately reported the incident demonstrate that the lessons taught both here and at home about personal safety, which includes never accepting a lift from a stranger, have been worthwhile.
“We are asking all pupils and their parents to remain vigilant but calm as we work closely with the police to ensure the continued safety of the children at our school.â€
The male is described in the letter as dark skinned and about 5’ 10â€. He may be between 20 to 30, black hair, a bit of a beard, skinny and spotty. He did not have a local accent. The car was described as a dark-coloured estate or hatchback.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information should contact CID on 736551 or if you wish to remain anonymous Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
