ENGINEERS at Manor Bakeries went on strike for the first time in the plant's history in a dispute over pay.
The 54 staff walked out of the Carlton bakery for 48 hours on Sunday night after talks between union officials and management broke down.
The engineers want compensating for a pay freeze last year in their new pay deal which will be implemented next month.
Unite regional officer Pat Pepper said workers had gone on strike as a last resort.
