A FATHER of two from Penistone died in a car accident near Silkstone Common on Sunday evening.
Dale Redfearn, 45, of Tennyson Close, was taking his 14-year-old son home after a football match when he lost control of his Toyota MR2 on a right hand turn on Ben Bank Road, a police statement said.
The car spun and careered into a tree, making contact on the front driver’s side. It rebounded down a banking before coming to rest in a field.
Mr Redfearn died at the scene.
His son Ben, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Barnsley hospital.
The accident happened about a quarter of a mile from Hall Royd Lane on the Barnsley side at about 8.10pm. Ben Bank Road was closed off until 1am while police cleared and investigated the scene.
Mr Redfearn worked in the coal mining industry and also had a 15-year-old girl. His family were unavailable for comment.
