PARAMEDICS were called to a school to deal with three girls who had taken the deadly drug mephedrone.
The three 15-year-old Wombwell High pupils had taken the powdered substance which is derived from plant food over the weekend.
One of them collapsed on Monday afternoon and police and ambulances were called. All three girls were assessed by paramedics and taken to Barnsley Hospital.
Mephedrone also known as M-Cat or meow was made illegal by the government this month because it has been linked to 26 deaths.
A hospital spokesman said there had been a surge in the number of patients who had taken M-Cat.
Since the turn of the year medics have dealt with 19 cases nine involving under-18s. The mother of one of the girls said: “It was scary.
“The first thing that went through my head when they said it was M-Cat was I have seen it on the news.
