BARNSLEY has no vu-vu-voom, because of a shortage of vuvuzelas in town.

The horns have sparked controversy among players and fans since the start of the tournament in South Africa, with some likening their noise to a swarm of hornets.

The nearest thing to be found in Barnsley are squeaky sounding ‘England Horns’, on sale in The Works Discount Bookstore in Cheapside, which has sold 300 in the past couple of weeks.

The only shop which had the genuine article, Direct Sports, said the two they had managed to get hold of sold out.

The vuvuzelas had a mixed reaction from Barnsley folk. Some say they like the atmosphere they create, but one Barnsley fan said he won’t be happy if they turn up at Oakwell next season.

Scarlett Vodden, 19, said: “They sound like bees on the TV, but it’s just about having fun, I guess.

“I like them.”
