THE head of the University Campus Barnsley Cathy Doggett retires today after four years running the centre.

Cathy, formerly a ward sister at Pinderfields hospital, Wakefield, has overseen a 200 per cent increase in students and said that was the biggest achievement of her time in Barnsley.

“I have enjoyed every minute of it, it’s one of the best jobs I’ve had. The people are so friendly, both and off campus.

“We have been made so welcome very quickly and we now feel part of the community.”

Cathy, 59, of Wakefield, got into education by training nurses and later was employed by Huddersfield University as head of nursing. She has mixed emotions about retiring.

“I’m looking forward to having time to myself for the first time since leaving school.”

She intends to holiday and spend more time swimming, dancing and reading novels. The leader of the popular music course, Pete Birkby, will take over the job.
