MOTORISTS are being warned to take care today because of hazardous driving conditions.
Barnsley Council published the warning at about 9.30am when the first flake of snow fell in Barnsley. The highways department has advised motorists to be 'extra vigilant' following weather forecasts of plummeting temperatures.
Spokesman John Graham, said: "‘The information we have from our weather forecasters is that the temperature will drop rapidly at around midday and this will cause widespread ice.
"Temperatures will rise slightly in the afternoon before falling again this evening. Our gritters will be out and about immediately following rain to try to cope with the conditions, but they cannot be everywhere. "We ask people to be very careful as they go about their daily business.
