A TEENAGER who nearly died after slipping on ice and hitting his head is leaving hospital to spend Christmas with his new fiancée.

Jack Mitchell-Ryan, 17, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Keresforth Centre, Broadway, since his fall in Barnsley town centre almost a year ago.

He was on his way home after a night out with friends when he fell and needed emergency surgery to remove two blood clots on his brain.

The Barnsley College student has had to relearn basic skills like speaking and feeding himself and hopes he will be able to walk fiancée Paige Guest down the aisle. "I don't think it will be for a few years but I would marry her tomorrow. She has been brilliant," he said.
